Therapist Square offers several contract options designed to accommodate different private practice business models. Your compensation depends on the contract option you choose, the services you provide, and the funding source for each client.

How You’re Compensated
Private Pay Clients
For private pay services, you receive your established private pay rate for each service that is successfully billed and paid, less applicable credit card processing fees.
Insurance & EAP Clients
Your compensation for insurance and Employee Assistance Program (EAP) clients depends on your contract type.

Estimated Gross Earnings
Depending on how you structure your schedule—including documentation time, breaks between appointments, and the mix of session lengths—you can generally expect to gross approximately $78 to $188 per hour of face-to-face client care when providing insurance or EAP services.
This estimate excludes intake evaluations, group psychotherapy, and private pay services, all of which may generate higher revenue depending on factors such as session length, reimbursement rates, and group size.
How Payments Are Made
Payments are made through direct deposit to the bank account you designate.
Depending on the payer and billing platform, you may receive payments directly from a billing platform, from Therapist Square, or both.
Insurance & EAP Payment Schedule
Insurance and EAP payments are issued according to the billing platform used for each client.
Current payment schedules include:
- One billing platform issues payments every Friday for claims submitted during the previous processing period.
- A second billing platform issues payments twice monthly:
- 15th: Claims submitted from the 16th through the end of the previous month.
- 2530th: Claims submitted from the 1st through the 15th of the current month.
- A third billing platform typically issues payment within one to two weeks after claim submission but allows up to 40 days for payment.
Before providing services, your schedule identifies which billing platform will be used for each client so you can anticipate how payments will be processed.
Therapist Square also issues semi-monthly direct deposits to reimburse eligible insurance payment recoupments.
Private Pay Payment Schedule
Private pay reimbursements are issued by Therapist Square through direct deposit twice each month.

Tax Reporting
If Therapist Square issues at least $2,000 in direct deposits to you during a calendar year, you’ll receive electronic access to a Form 1099-NEC through our payment processor no later than January 31 of the following year.
Additional Forms 1099 may also be issued directly by applicable billing platforms when required.
Beginning in 2027, the IRS reporting threshold will be adjusted for inflation.
Insurance Reimbursement Ranges
Insurance carriers establish reimbursement rates individually for each contracted provider. Because these rates are confidential and specific to your individual contracts, Therapist Square cannot disclose your contracted reimbursement rates before you become credentialed and contracted with each insurance carrier.
However, the following ranges illustrate approximate reimbursement amounts for commonly billed CPT codes across participating carriers and plans.
